We’re excited to announce our new program, Words with the Wise. The goal of this program is to work with seniors in our community to encourage children to become lifelong readers.
It will take place once per month at alternating assisted living homes throughout Kootenai and Shoshone County. The locations will rotate on a monthly basis, to give us the chance to include as many of our cherished seniors as possible.
Our very first event was held at Guardian Angel Homes in Post Falls, ID. The children had an incredible time with the seniors. We had the joy of listening to residents read from a selection of children’s books. Refreshments were provided with special thanks from Pilgrim’s Market. .
Reading is such an important part of a young child’s life. By getting our community actively involved, we are instilling an early love of reading. This will not only help young children succeed in school, it will help them succeed in life.
When is it?
The time and date varies.
Where is it?
Locations differ each month.
When and where is the next event?
Unfortunately, we’ve had to put the event on hold due to the Coronavirus. At this time, we don’t feel it’s responsible to bring young children into assisted living facilities with vulnerable seniors.
We are working with the amazing team at Angel’s Wings Daycare in Kellogg, Idaho to plan our next event just as soon as we feel it’s safe to do so.
What is the event all about?
We are currently working to pair daycare centers with assisted living facilities. Our goal is to encourage an early love of reading. By inviting seniors to read to children, we are creating a sense of community that will stay with us for years to come.
