All of us at The MONARCH TRAIN are strong proponents of early childhood literacy. We believe that reading can provide children in our community with the wings they need to soar. The incredible people (and animals) at Big Red’s Barn share our vision. That is why we teamed up together to offer a FREE book exchange.
When is it?
Books at the Barn will now take place quarterly. Follow us on Facebook for the latest information on upcoming events. Our next one is Saturday, July 24th from 6:30 PM – 7:00 PM.
Where is it?
Big Red’s Barn is located at 7397 N Government Way, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.
How much does it cost?
Nothing! We want every family in our community to feel welcome, regardless of their ability to pay. All you need to do to join us is bring a used (or new) book with you to exchange. We do have donation jars available though, that allow you to contribute if you can.
How old do you have to be?
This event is open to ALL ages.
What book will you be reading?
“The Day the Momarch Met the Babyfly” by Melody June, with illustrations by Ayden Lyric.
Will I have a chance to win anything?
Yes! We have a free drawing at every event. On July 24th, each family who joins us will be entered for a chance to win an autographed first edition of “The Day the Momarch Met the Babyfly.” The book was written by Melody, the President of The MONARCH TRAIN, and illustrated by her son, Ayden. We’ll also be holding a second drawing where one lucky family will win a pair of two free admission tickets to Big Red’s Barn.
What is the event all about?
Our goal is to encourage an early love of reading. Families who are finished with one of their books can bring it to the exchange and leave it for another family to take home and enjoy. Every family is welcome to pick out a book at the event so that nobody leaves empty handed. We can’t promise what kind of books we’ll have. It’ll be a new adventure every time, depending on what each family brings. You never know what treasures you’ll find.
At our July 24th event, we’ll be joined by a special musical guest from Los Angeles, Jud Duncan. He’s a gifted and well accomplished musician who will be playing a few songs before we read our book. You can check out his music on YouTube.
Will I see any animals?
Yes! Most of our furry friends will be in bed for the night but a few of them will stay up late to get some extra snuggles. There are also our winged friends, the birds. They’re always by the door to welcome everyone. You’ll just have to join us to see who’s decided to hang out. It changes from event to event.
What if I have books to donate but can’t make it to the event?
No worries! The awesome team at Big Red’s Barn have a book drop available for families who want to donate books. Just bring them by during business hours, which are Thursday – Sunday between 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM.
Please note: You might want to confirm their hours on their Facebook page.
What if we are a family in need and we are unable to bring a book with us?
Please come join us regardless! We always have extra books available. On top of that, if you’re having difficulty bringing books into your home, please reach out to us at email@example.com so we can try to help. We understand how difficult financial struggles can be. No child should miss out on the opportunity to discover the joy of reading because of money.
How do I sign up?
Please sign up using the form below. You’ll receive an email confirmation once we have registered you for the event. Simply provide us with your name at the door. We just ask that if you sign up, please be certain you’ll be in attendance. The events often sell out and we don’t want to reserve an empty spot. We do understand that things happen in life, though. If you can’t attend, just email us at firstname.lastname@example.org so we can give your spot to another family. We look forward to seeing you.
Please note: We reserve the right to refuse admission.
